How transfer cost is measured
The total cost of a transfer is the upfront fee plus the exchange-rate margin, which is the gap between the rate you get and the mid-market reference rate. The World Bank records both for amounts equal to $200 and $500 and expresses the total as a percentage of the amount sent. The figures on these pages are from surveys of past months, not current prices; check the provider’s own quote before you send money.
